Personalization
Setting up personalization
- Setup the CEP/DMP connector by following the steps as described in the documentation.
- The connector is needed to sync users between CEP and DMP which is required for personalization purposes
- Make sure the DMP on-site pixel has been implemented on the website.
- Go to the DMP. In the first step of pixel creation and/or editing, you can collect custom data using JavaScript code. There are two options for you to collect custom data:
- A PS consultant can help you implement the collection of custom data
- If you are/have a developer with knowledge of JavaScript in-house we can provide you with in-depth technical documentation and access to advanced features. Contact your Account Manager for more information.
- Go to Custom Data and enable the custom data points for personalization by checking the boxes.
- Send an audience to CEP with users who visited your website.
- The user needs to have visited your website to personalize content in the email.
- Go to CEP and create a new message.
- Click on Personalization when composing an email and select the custom attributes from the DMP.
- The custom attributes from the DMP can be recognized by the format: DMP [name of the custom data point you created in the DMP].
- The custom attributes from the DMP can be recognized by the format: DMP [name of the custom data point you created in the DMP].
- You can preview the personalized message by clicking on preview. This will open a popup. By selecting a contact who visited your website you will be able to see the personalized email which will be sent to the contact.
- Send the message.
Note:
• If a user is sharing his/her device with somebody else (same user account, same browser). In that case, web behavior from person B could be displayed in an email meant for person A.
• Without the ability to make a match between a known user (email capability) and an unknown user (DMP capability) it is impossible to match the two together. In that case, web behavior cannot be linked to a personalized email.
• The personalized attribute displayed in the email is always the last viewed attribute.
